Prepare to have your insides churned like the sand on the Puerto Escondido seabed. Brazil’s Pedro Calado, a stranger neither to enormous waves nor to the consequences of falling thereon (remember his headlong fall at Jaws this year?), yesterday underwent what was surely the most intense wipeout of his life so far. In the same session, Mark Healey caught what has been called the biggest wave ever paddled into at Puerto; Pedro’s was a wave of similar size but he fell on the take-off, and unable to penetrate the surface left skid marks all the way down its monstrous face. He’s since updated his Instagram, so we’re assuming he remains more or less intact.
