Which advertising genius came up with this? KFC South Africa’s ill-conceived new commercial, imaginatively entitled “Pro Surfer Fights Off Shark In South Africa”, essentially dramatises a Mick Fanning shark meme. Apparently it’s supposed to make people buy the toothsome new “Jacked Up Double Crunch”. Because, you know, it’s “next level awesome”, just like fighting off a shark is. Sound logic, to be sure, although surely the words “Double Crunch” used in this context merely conjure up images of hungry shark chomping down on human flesh and bone. Here’s a question though: if old matey great white had a choice between Mick Fanning and a KFC Jacked Up Double Crunch, which would it go for? One would be liable to punch it in the back, the other would be utterly disgusting.
