Kelly Slater Collapses During Breathing Exercise

Surely you’ve heard of the Iceman? Real name Wim Hof? Inventor of the Wim Hof Method?

He’s a Dutch guru — he is very, very Dutch — possessed of extraordinary powers, and he may also be one of the “personal reasons” that Kelly Slater is not currently in Rio de Janeiro. Here’s a brief overview, taken from his website:

“Wim is internationally renowned for his countless ice endeavors that range from being up to his neck in a cylinder filled with ice cubes for over 90 minutes, swimming long distances under polar ice, running a marathon barefoot to climbing the Everest in nothing more than a pair of shorts. It gained him worldwide fame and his nickname: The Iceman. Wim has shown what the human body is capable of once you find the flow within your physical and mental state. Right now he especially sees his new challenge in passing on his method to others to give everyone the opportunity to reach out and do more than what they thought they were capable of. Through the right training and exercises, you can strengthen your inner nature and prevent disease.”

He’s a real card. Anyhow, he can be seen and heard in the above video barking instructions as Slater jumps up and down and stutters and wobbles and collapses, momentarily passed out in a crumpled heap, his girlfriend Kalani Miller looking on behind him with apparent glee. Kelly uploaded the video to his Instagram accompanied by the following message:

“When you’re doing a breathing class with #WimHof on #FridayThe13th under a #NewMoon and Mercury is heavily in #Retrogade and you pass out and fall on your face, start dreaming and wake up wondering where tf you are and why does your face feel like you just got tackled on the football field and someone was filming it all… but you think it’s funny.”

Righto. And in other Slater-related Insty news, this:

#Framegrab inside the belly of the little beast. Clips coming soon. #SoGlassy @kswaveco @gopro
