Vincent Duvignac Interview (cont.)

Photo: Marc Bourel

Surfing hard in Sumbawa at the moment, Vincent Duvignac will be back in Europe for the all important Prime event in Portugal next week (Quiksilver Pro Portugal 14-19 of June), here is the next installment of the interview we did just before he flew to the province of Nusa Tenggara Barat paradise…

One year ago you were still an underdog, relatively unknown in the international surfing scene. Now that you are one of the leader of the european contingent, does that new status fits you?

I had a slow progression in professional surfing, and I now realize it. I knew I didn’t have the necessary drive as a competitor and that’s why I put a lot of work on my free surfing. But I now have a lot more experience on the contest scene and I still feed at the same time on my freesurf, that is part of the deal I have with Rusty. I also have a proper training program now and I feel I can get more good results in contest in the near future.

The brazilians are killing it at the moment contest wise, especially dominating in the air department, where are you at the moment with your surfing?

I try to work on my power moves, on my carves to throw big buckets but obviously also on my airs because I think I lost some ground on the best guys out there. I start to get a feel for it and my aim is to pull them regularly during contests.

Summer is here, what are your goals in the coming months?

I am gonna try to keep the same momentum and really focus on the European events and try to make the top 10 of the european WQS. •

How did you celebrate your quart final result in Scotland? Any whisky hang over?

In between two trips, I try to go back home and spend some time with my wife. It is my little paradise. I don’t party that much anymore because I’ve learned that quality is better than quantity . So I do party hard when there is a good reason for it, it is like contemplating eating a piece of chocolate, you have to have a good reason to eat all the tablet!!
