Dearest Reader,

Welcome to SE 101!

This month, we went around the world in search of surf. Partly because there wasn’t much around here for a while, and partly, because, well just coz.

Staying close to home, Lowey and Indar, two of Europe’s most consistently barrelled humans got interviewed in time to come out with the short films we produced about them for the web.

Now, originally, I had in mind for them to interview each other, or at least pose one another a few questions as fellow goofyfoot freesurf chargers… although that required a rethink when Lowey, who by his own admission doesn’t follow the surf scene that closely, responded,

‘Who’s Indar?’

Anyhows, give their Hidden Lives webisodes a peep… real real soon!

Further afield, we sent the SE ambassadorial dream team of Ben ‘Rod Cunthorpe’ Mondy and Timo to Bali for the Oakley Pro, where they both immersed themselves in the culture and produced fine content for the magazine. Bravo.

Heading in the other direction, Alex Laurel and the entire Nixon Euro team went to Iceland for the Nixon Surf Challenge. But wait! Our Iceland love- in doesn’t stop there… the shooting of Globe’s hotly-anticipated Strange Rumblings took in the volcanic hunk of northerness too, before heading south to Brazil, from where Dion scored this issue’s covershot. Anyone who’s enjoyed director Joe G’s Globe films in the past will be looking forward to the release with blood pulsing into an anticipative semi as much as we are.

Elsewhere, we feature a new discovery in the Indian Ocean , interview Playmate Sylvi Bodi and UK grom Liam Turner, sniff around Ryan Burch’s assymetrical quiver and find out about sea fish.

We advise 5 tube stalls to get you deeper, and impart a wee bit of France skinformation for your inevitable September sessions there. We also caught up with a selection of surfers and photogs on their spring/ summer exploits in Ain’t That Swell, from deepest darkest Indo to Waikiki via Chile, Oz, Lisbon and the Wave Garden. Haven’t we been busy!

Anyway, enough about the magazine… have you got time to be actually reading this; shouldn’t you just be briefly scanning over the pictures and then going surfing?

Good luck!
– PE

Infidels Mondy, Timo and the WCT invade Bali for the Oakley Pro Bali.

Lowey vs Indar. Guess who won…

Dan Jones and a couple of other dudes we’ve never heard of went to surf a windy left on an island where they eat virgins for breakfast…
