J-BAY: A PORTRAIT OF A SWELL by Ted Grambeau

Ted Grambeau’s recent assignment to the world’s favourite right point enjoyed the logistic ease of no teamriders. “The idea was simply to shoot a portrait of a swell. No waiting for anyone to get their shit together, no faffing, no egos, no agendas, just shoot the waves with the swell itself as the subject of the piece.

ROOM WITH A VIEW. This is part of a series I’ve been working on for a number of years, having witnessed some of the most perfect waves from cabins, tents, boats, cars, treehouses… you name it. This one is from Cheron’s at J-Bay, it doesn’t get much better.

The most exciting element of J-Bay is speed. Bringing motion to a still image gives a more accurate representation of this speed than any manoeuvre…

Like any thing of beauty, it must be flawless from every angle. J-Bay certainly meets that criteria whichever you look at it…
