We went Newquay for the Nike 6.0 Cash For Tricks this weekend just gone. It’s tuesday, and I have just managed to get the taste of grease out of my mouth.
The weather was pretty awesome for a Cornish summer – it only rained some of the time and the wind was cold but at least it didn’t sleet. we wore snowboard jackets and beanies and nobody got frostbite, although I did hear some of the crew contracted flu. On the plus side, Fistral had a few waves and the boys all went bananas. Reubyn Ash won, ahead of Charly Martin and Eddie DelPero. Martin was making his Cornish debut… he reckoned Fistral was nearly as good as Le Moule in Gwadaloopy.
Seriously, it wasn’t that bad. The surfing on show was pretty irie and the vibe was wicked. Everyone was stoked. Jossy Ash was handsome and charming, Jayce Robinson was pretty funny as was Lyndon Wake. At the prezzo Lyndon was heckling Sam Lam, which I liked. My favourite Englisher over the weekend was Paul Barrington, a tall Devonian man who was doing a bit of MCing and just generally being tall.
Watch out for the Seignosse event coming up this very weekend, you wild bastards. J-Bay? Who cares? Casernes is gonna be 3ft and offshore! See you there.
