Anyhows, Albert talked us through this notable tunnel at a well-known Gran Canary slab that we decided not to name, in fear of getting a knuckle sandwich next time we head down there…

“Surfing is pretty much a minority sport for us at slabs like this,” lamented the bonny lad, “Generally we’re like 6 surfers max, and maybe 50 boogies in the lineup. That’s just the way it is. But these days, surfers are a little bit more respected than the in bad old days. Years before, we had to get into gnarly paddle battles just to catch closeouts on scary shallow parts of the reef. Now they let us ride the good ones…”

Thank goodness for that!
