Talent: Lyndon Wake

Age: 18
Home: Croyde
Sponsors: Billabong, Nike 6.0
Favourite smell: After rain in the tropics.

We caught up with young Mr Wake fresh from returning home from a trip to Mexico with some fellow rosbif shredders. “It was the worst trip of my whole life!” appraised Lyndon, “No waves at all. It was just shit the whole time…plus we got nailed by mozzies every night.” But let’s not bust the violins out too quick, the jammy so-and-so is prudently off to Bali after just a mere few days braving Blighty’s grim mid-winter tempests. Lyndon originally hails from the posh Surrey town of Kingston Upon Thames, usually the domain of horsey ra ra’s and rugger buggers rather than stoking groms, so at age 13 when the opportunity arose to relocate to the coast, it was North Devon he opted for.

Since then, Lyndon has developed his surfing amongst the fabled rollers of Croyde Bay. “It’s one of the few beaches in England where you might actually get barrelled occasionally,” he reckons of his home break, “with a bit more power than most of the others. The paddle out can be an absolute nightmare, but still, it’s a good work out.” Lyndon is planning on hitting up the Euro Pro Junior comps this year to try and get in the Top 16, as well as do as many trips as possible for photos. He reckons Australia is one of his favourite spots to travel to, and is real keen to get back to Mexico to try and score.

Travelling and surfing with fellow up and coming Englishman Reubyn Ash (who last year became the first Brit to surf a WCT heat in nearly a decade, as a wildcard in the Billabong Pro Mundaka) among others, Lyndon admits having his sights on the bigger stage, “I just wanna get out there, travel and try and be known outside of the UK, in Europe and elsewhere, not just stay at home.”
