Surfilm Festibal XIV San Sebastian 22- 26th June
The World's Best Surf Film Fest is Back!
Nothing heralds the official start of good times like the Surfilm Festibal, San Sebastian. Cunningly timed to land each year just after the solstice (pagans!) and also during major international football tournaments (hooligans!), it's one of Europe's... no fuck it - the world's! - must-do surf events.
This year, the program is as stacked as ever. Some highlights:
The Accord. (Yet more Iceland... but still)
The More Things Change - Gerry Lopez (fuck yeah)
Brother, a short film on Bruce Irons (Love that guy)
Holding On and Dirty Old Wedge in a bodyboard session at the beach (Wave sliding bredren!)
Euskal Balearen Ehiza - a documentary on big wave surfing in the Basque Country (What's not to love)
Chasing Zero, a live audiovisual performance by Chris McClean with live films & music (Yes!)
If the Teatro Principal in the old town and Playa Zurriola weren't rad enough hangs themselves, Festibal 14 returns to Albaola, the awesome shipyard venue in Pasaia. It'll host films and concerts (Lee Ann Curren's Betty The Shark!), the new short from Kepa Acero in Namibia, the Christian Beamish part of Idiosyncrasies among other essential fare.
Flying to San Seb in your own Lear Jet? Doesn't matter! You can offset your fossil fuel guilt by taking in a super solid environmental program at the Clean Waves and Surfilm Pro day. Featuring Patagonia's Yulex rubber, there'll also be the premiere of White Waves documentary, the launch of the activist kit from Surfers Against Sewage, the presentation of SeaBin project and a talk about Tua, a river in Portugal threatened by dams.
