A strange phenomenon, the US Open of Surfing. Such a hullabaloo about the old surfboard riding, and yet in reality a lot of the people there seem to know and care very little about surfing. Surfing is of course one of the things that happens at the US Open, and above you can find highlights of the first round; though even many actual surf fans might struggle to give much of a shit about yesterday’s slopfest (which nonetheless saw some very impressive surfing from the likes of Freddy P, Pat Gudauskas, Mitch Crews, Carlos Muñoz and Davey Cathels).
But reckless teenage hedonism on the other hand! The video below was filmed by the Inertia at last year’s event, and suffice to say surfing is not the main concern of the “spectators” featured therein.
And fights!
Not to mention riots. This was back in 1986 when it was called the Op Pro. (There were riots in 2013 too, although fairly tame ones in comparison).
