THE MAD HUEY’S ESCAPE DEATH AFTER SHARK DIVING (WITH BIRD CAGE)

Who’d have thought this cage wouldn’t stop a 8 foot tiger shark?

Gold Coast based twins Shaun and Dean Harrington (also known as “The Hazza’s) have never been known to take life too seriously. That is reflected in their brand, The Mad Huey’s, which started off as a mate’s drinking and fishing club and turned into an actual brand that actually sells a fair bit of merchandise.

Natural comics, with a blatant self regard for physical pain, their latest stunt almost proved their last when they decided ‘cage diving’ with sharks off the Coast last weekend. The only flaw in the plan was the fact that the cage was a flimsy $50 bird cage, that could only fit on Shaun’s head.

When their mate, a professional fisherman, brought in a 8 foot tiger shark on his first throw a couple of miles off Coolangatta, Dean Hazza jumped into the ocean to get close to the beast, armed with just the bird cage. Of course things went wrong.

“”It was heavy – its scared the shit out of me and I thought I was a goner,” Harrington told the Gold Boat Bulletin. “We were just having fun but it turned crazy. I jumped into the water and was swimming with the cage and the next thing I knew, the bloody thing was coming at me.
“I was flailing around like crazy to get back on the boat before it sunk it’s teeth into me.”

His twin brother also jumped in (already with dislocated arm from a previous incident), and also managed to escape any injury. On their website the boys will drop a clip of the day real soon.

“We surf every day and never really see any sharks but we definitely won’t be doing anything as stupid as this again,” said Shaun, although that remains to be seen. “My girlfriend said ‘no more – no more sharks!’
