Sooruz Lacanau Pro Lands in August

The 28th edition of Sooruz Lacanau Pro, presented by PlayStation takes place from the 9th to the 19th of August, in Lacanau, France, attracting the best surfers in the world. This important stage of the world surfing championship is a springboard for new surfing champions, as well as for new bands, sharing the values of the ‘Beach Culture’.

Since it was created in 1979, the ASP 6 Star French Pro (called for the third consecutive year SOÖRUZ LACANAU PRO) gives the opportunity to discover new talent among the surfers coming from all over the world to brave the ‘girondine’ waves. In 1994, Kelly Slater confirmed his superiority by taking the first place on the podium before taking the title of world champion the same year.

More recently, young prodigy Jeremy Flores displayed his talents by making the finals in 2006. He qualified for the WCT in Lacanau and he is now one of the world’s finest surfers. Lacanau-born 19-year-old Adrien Valéro is better known for eliminating American surfer Rob Machado. He is among the best French juniors aiming to challenge the Australian title holder of the OAKLEY PRO JUNIOR: Mitch Coleborn.

New Event: The Oakley Femme Junior

A new stage has been added to the SOÖRUZ LACANAU PRO 2007, with a female junior comp planned to take place in each region of the ASP in order to select the two best surfers to compete in the next world championship, taking place this year in Narabeen (Australia).

Among the under-21 competitors, four French girls are the firm favourites to win at Lacanau: Pauline Ado (World Junior Champion), Alizée Arnaud, Lee Ann Curren (Junior European Champion in 2006) as well as Lacanau-born rider Justine Dupont.

Sooruz Lacanau Pro, The Musical Springboard

The surfing competition can be seen daily on the central beach in Lacanau with numerous festivities from sunset. Music will add to the beach culture vibe, with a stage being installed along the beach, featuring new musical talents.

Young groups of Ska, Rock and Reggae will be performing live, including Maxime’s, Danakil, Nelly Olson, Rasta Mytho, Nafta and Taxi Folia.
