Surfers competing on the ASP WQS are looking to gain the valuable ratings points towards qualification for the 2010 ASP Dream Tour, with 15 surfers on the series advancing on to the coveted Tour at year’s end. Once qualified, they earn the right to battle for the title of ASP World Champion.
With a solid swell on the horizon and plenty of time remaining in the waiting period, today’s small surf has prompted event officials to call competition off for today and are expecting the new swell to be here by tomorrow.
“The surf is smaller today than yesterday, so we’re putting competition off until tomorrow,” Contest Director Gary Linden said. “We’re hoping the new swell will fill in overnight and could be back up and running tomorrow.”
Local Puerto Escondido surfers have put on a show for their home crowd in the opening two days of competition and are hungry to claim the inaugural Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido title. Puerto Escondido surfers such as Christian Corzo (Puerto Escondido, MEX) and Angelo Lozano (Puerto Escondido, MEX), 22, have advanced through to Round 3 and will continue their quests for the title when competition resumes.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am local time for a possible 7am start.
