New England has been subject to some extremely cold weather in recent days -- weather so cold, in fact, that the waves arriving on the shores of Nantucket, an island situated just off the USA's north east coast, have been turned almost to the consistency of a Slush Puppy. Nantucket-based photographer and surfer Jonathan Nimerfroh was on hand to capture these truly remarkable photos. Head to Stay Wild Magazine for the rest of Jonathan's stunning shots, then visit his Instagram and website to admire more of his work, then go tell your friends all about him.
"[It's] just been super cold here," Jonathan told Stay Wild when asked about the conditions. "The harbor to the main land is frozen solid. No boats running. But yeah, the day after I took these it actually froze up the shoreline for 200 yards out. Solid ice. I was totally tripping when I pulled up to the beach and saw this."
The waves look really fun too -- although balls of solid steel, a centimetre or so of heavy-duty neoprene and razor sharp fins would be the minimum requirement for entry into such frigid waters as these. This February has been one of the coldest on record, with several American states experiencing record low temperatures.
