At some point later this year, 16 of the world’s sickest caarrnts will take part in a uniquely formatted Red Bull surf contest held at Cape Fear. But what’s this ‘Cape Fear’ place Red Bull are on about? In all essentials it’s the same wave as ‘Ours’ in NSW, Australia, but Red Bull decided to change its name to make it sound gnarlier, which totally worked.
It was pretty gnarly even before the name change — so gnarly that Mark Matthews reckons “pound for pound it’s the heaviest wave in the world.” Strictly speaking, of course, pound for pound all waves are equally heavy, and size for size my cock’s no smaller than the next man’s, but we know what he means.
In any case, it’s gonna be nuts, he assures us.
