The day belonged to Filipe Toledo who again posted a perfect 10 point ride. This was backed up by another incredible 9 point ride. Both were for huge air reverses off the first section followed by a series of turns to complete the wave.
The day started with really clean conditions and Tom Whittaker just out powered Marlon Lipke ending his good run in the event. Other morning winners in Round 4 included Adam Melling and Matt Wilkinson who knocked Jonathan Gonzales out of the competition looking full of flair on his backhand.

Tiago Pires kicked off Round 5 (round of 16) beating Davey Cathels and during that heat the wind started to blow into the rights. This lead for an epic heat of airs between Caio Ibelli who lead the heat for 15 minutes with a couple of technical airs and Filipe Toledo. In the space of 6 minutes the beach was set alight by Toledo with his 9 and 10 point rides.
With the beach alight with a buzz from the action Dillon Perillo followed up with an impressive power display to beat Torrrey Meister who just failed to complete a couple of big air attempts. Jadson Andre lead his heat from the start against Tom Whitaker and Adam Melling narrowly knocked out Jeremy Flores in a battle of the forehand wraps. Heat 5 saw good friends and fellow WT surfers Ace Buchan and Matt Wilkinson face off. Wilko took the win continuing his flair approach from the morning.
In the last heat of the day, needing a 7 point ride to advance Jack Freestone got the score he needed with the last wave of the day to advance over Michael Dunphy.
With the competition down to the final 8 surfers most on the beach are hoping for yet another electric display from Filipe Toledo. He’ll start off the quarter finals when competition resumes and Tiago Pires will be the man hoping to stop his run.
