Ever since the advent of Wavegarden's new artificial wave technology, rumours of wave pools projects in the region have been bandied about left, right and centre. There was talk of a project down in Biarritz and also north of Bordeaux in Charente. News of a new Wavegarden project in the seaside town of Soustons, 20-minutes north of Hossegor, appears however to have gained some ground lately.

Initially suspected of being just a case of electioneering and empty promises (with municipal elections due in France this March), the Conseil général des Landes has recently revealed further information on a proposed water park leisure centre, part of which would include a man-made wave pool. The first in the region, seeing as Wavegarden's prototype wave pool across the border in Spain isn't actually open to the public and doesn't plan to be.

And while the Aqua park still appears to be a fair way away from opening its doors (unlike North Wales now advanced Surf Snowdonia Wavegarden leisure centre which could open as early as this summer), the land on which the project is set to be constructed was apparently acquired over two years ago now.
