Queensland’s elder statesmen of surfing are anxiously waxing their boards in anticipation of the opening round of the ’07 Printpoint Queensland Masters Surfing Circuit to be held from Southport Spit to Duranbah in Australia this weekend.
The consistent beach-breaks of the Gold Coast will provide the perfect battleground for the ‘old salts’ of the Queensland surfing scene as surfers fight it out for an early lead in the race for prestigious Queensland titles along with a place in the Queensland team to contest the Australian Open Surf Masters titles in 2008.
In accordance with the ’06 circuit, the progressive printing company will yet again shell out $500 to the series winner of each of the six divisions contested. The senior men (over 28), O/35 men, O/40 men, O/45 men, 0/50 men and the O/55 men divisions will be decided from a qualifying field representing the best part of the Queensland coast.
This year’s lineup is again overflowing with talent with the likes of past and present Queensland champions; Mark ‘Richo’ Richardson (Palm Beach), Dean Lock (Currumbin Waters), Peter Pringle (Mudjimba), Mark Traucnieks (Palm Beach) and Mal Chalmers (Mermaid Beach) already confirming their entry into round one of the four event series.
Also up for grabs is the Toohey’s Extra Dry ‘Wave of the Weekend’ prize granted to the surfer who scores the highest individual wave score of the event. The lucky winner will walk away with four cartons of the clean crisp taste of Toohey’s Extra Dry.
The one day tournament will be run on Saturday March 24, 2007. The Printpoint Queensland Masters Surfing Circuit does have the option of going mobile to the best beach-breaks from Southport Spit to Duranbah. Get set to see Queensland’s best masters surfers flair it up over the four event series!
The Printpoint Queensland Masters Surfing Circuit is proudly supported by Toohey’s Extra Dry, Coca-Cola, Aqua Sun, Malibu and Surfing Queensland.
