Pressure and swell build on the O’Neill Mission

In the words of contest director Matt Wilson, “The Mission proper showed its face today.”

A decent four foot swell rolling into the beach of La Torche in Brittany finally gave the nine Mission surfers from around the world, the chance to start getting some decent airs and impressive moves.

As usual Adam Robertson was the first surfer wetsuited-up ready to jump in the water. And he has already been picked out by his fellow surfers as one of the guys to watch especially after his morning in the surf.

“I’ve just been trying my best in front of my friends,” Adam said. “If they think I am surfing good then that’s great. I feel like I am having fun.”

“This afternoon I was wearing a warm wetsuit and got way too hot from going for it, and got completely exhausted,” he said.

Cory Lopez on the other hand was killing it on the lefts this afternoon with big airs and huge carves.

“It was great to get some rideable waves today,” said Cory. “The whole concept of The Mission has been great. It’s just been a shame we haven’t got a lot of swell up until now. But this morning Justin (Mujica) got a great air, and Julian Wilson has been non-stop.”

“If the swell continues like this, I reckon that Julian will be one of the favorites,” said Cory. “He is great with his tricks.”

Justin Mujica is just one of the surfers to be pushed by the talent of the Australian grom. “It’s great fun out there,” he said. “We are just talking and joking amongst friends. It’s a really good vibe.”

About his morning air, Justin said: “I am not really an ‘air’ guy, but I was feeling confident and liking my equipment, and watching someone like Julian really pushes you.”

Tomorrow The Mission is back on the road again, travelling an hour and a half north to Crozon where we expect a low tide as well as a high tide beach break, and potentially a small reef break.
