Still on the Gold Coast following this year’s Quik Pro, you may have heard that Kelly’s been keeping a high profile in the Australian media on the issue of crowds in the water and the lack of surf etiquette. In the latest turn of events, some faceless Australian reckoned it’d be funny to drive his point home by waxing his windscreen.
“Check it out…I went surfing and when I came in, #Fuckwit had autographed my car in wax!” wrote Kelly on his Instagram feed 5 days ago. “Really wish I got a chance to see him and say hi. Such great respect surfers have for each other around these parts. So… maybe he’ll brag to his friends and I find out who he is so I can thank him in person and return the favor? Haha.”
In spite of his 11 world titles and adoring world-wide fan base, this lack of respect had however already been picked up by local newspapers earlier in the month with this photo of Kelly being dropped in on at Snapper. And while over-crowding on the Gold Coast is no doubt at a tipping-point, the ever-egalitarian down-to-earth Aussies feel that as one of the most tubed humans on earth Kelly is in fact the last person on the planet to have the right to moan about it.
