The Peugeot South Africa Masters Championships took place at St Michaels on Sea, from August 24-27th 2006. The event drew over 120 surfers from seven provinces competing Senior Men, Masters, Veterans and Legends categories.
After a hot three days of competition, hosts Southern KwaZulu Natal held on to the Team Trophy for the second year running but they needed to pull out all the stops to fend off a determined Zululand team. At the end of the contest, it was a close call with Southern KZN finishing just 46 points ahead in a 33500 point spread.
Third behind Southern KZN and Zululand were Eastern Province who put up a valiant effort to secure a place on the podium.

Selection trials for the 2007 SA Masters team who will go to compete in the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in Puerto Rico next January were held after the completion of each day’s surfing at the Peugeot Masters championships.
After three rounds John Mc Carthy and Andre Malherbe were selected in the 35-39 age group, David Malherbe and Craig Sims were chosen as the representatives in the 40-44 age group while Rudi Palmboom and Chris Knutsen will represent South Africa in the over 45 division at the World Championships. The team manager is Brendan Callaghan (KZN) and 1978 World Champion Ant Brodowicz (SKZN) is the coach.
