Pennywise to perform at Groundswell Festival

Groundswell Festival is set to electrify the surf capital of Europe by bringing the legendary surf skate punk megastars Pennywise to the forests and beaches of Angresse, Hossegor on 17 September. This will be the band’s only 2011 European appearance, a one-off show pre-headlining the spanking new surf and music experience that is Groundswell.

Sadly Kelis, a previous announced act for Groundswell, is now unable to attend this year’s inaugural festival.

With nine studio albums selling more than 3 million copies worldwide and a blistering live act Pennywise are one of the most successful independent punk acts of all time. The Groundswell festival set will be the only chance for their legion of fans to catch the band, this being their only European gig of 2011.

Soundtracking classic surf films like Momentum, snowboard and skiing films including Global Storming and TB4, and all over the Plan B skate films, Pennywise informed a whole generation of action sports kids what it meant to be punk. Their legendary live act cemented their massive influence.

Allez-Oop Director Jeff Wilson said, “Pennywise are a perfect fit for Groundswell. Apart from their massive mainstream appeal, they have a special part in the hearts of the surf, skate and action sports tribes. It was key Groundswell was in the Landes, the surf capital of Europe and crucial to have acts that are a pivotal part of that scene. Pennywise are that and more. It’s going to go ballistic.”

Also on the Groundswell stage; surf and music legend Donavon Frankenreiter will be playing, along with Newton Faulkner, and the great French eclectic act Cocoon, with Jason Mraz headlining. Aussie Mat McHugh of the “The Beautiful Girls” fame, and UK musician Ben Howard will be injecting some carefree surf style harmonies on the Festival’s Grassroots Stage.
Upping the good vibes and the energy the Groundswell Dance Arena will feature Felix Da Housecat, Erol Alkan, and DJ Don Rimini.

To get the best out of their trip Festival goers are recommended to use the free online Groundswell Travel Experience, which will offer the best travel options, accommodation, and up to the minute news on Groundswell parties and local amenities.

Tickets for Groundswell start at €45, website: www.groundswell-festival.com
