With the DNA of a Sunset Beach surfing champ, 25-year-old Mason Ho followed his father Michael's legendary footprints to post his first ASP victory in this year's HIC Pro. His dad won the event four times between 1988 and 1996, and now Mason becomes the 30th name on the HIC Pro winner's cup. Better still, his win earns him a wildcard seed into the Round of 64 for the Vans Triple Crown.
"It feels great to win in front of all my best friends and all the people that I walk past every day," said Ho. "It's always been a goal in my life to win contests, but to do it here at home... I've never really won a (world tour contest) before and I've been doing it for years, so I'm really happy.
His dad being the original Triple Crown champ back in 1983 (30 years ago), Mase will no doubt be hoping to use the win to build further momentum and see if the young Hawaiian son can't repeat history.
