Like father like son. Kid’s already nailed the elusive hair flick manoeuvre for extra spray! But on a more controversial note, Jay is not a goofy…
Eleven-year-old Jay Occhilupo, son of 1999 World Champ goofy powerhouse Mark Occhilupo, just hooked up with The Bong. Scoring consistent finals results in Junior contests, the grom clearly means business and has been showing signs of greatness at his local breaks Snapper and Duranbah.
“The Occhilupo-Billabong connection is deep and longstanding and we’re stoked to see it continue into a new generation,” commented Billabong Marketing Manager Scott Hargreaves. “It is both Jay’s unrivalled surfing ability and vibrant personality that has attracted us and we look forward to nurturing his talent and carving out a bright future together.”
Jay went on his first trip to ‘the proving grounds’ late last year – a month on Hawaii’s North Shore pulling into 6 footers (triple over-head), while picking up plenty handy tips from his dad of course.
With the likes of Parko, Taj, Rasta, Shane Dorian and AI to look up to, as well as his dad, it’s safe to say the 11 year old is in pretty good hands.
