Kelly this time wins it for real
Highlights from Kelly's Round 4 heat win versus Gabriel Medina and Miguel Pupo, officially sealing his 11th World Title.
After some random Internet pundit by the name of 'Mark' pointed out that the ASP had committed one monstruous cock-up by crowning Kelly world champion one heat too early, and what must have been a very long 3 days of lay days, Kelly took out his round 4 heat against Brazilian teenage hot shots Gabriel Medina and Miguel Pupo in what looked like tricky conditions, sealing his status as 11-time World Champion for certain this time.
“It’s a little anticlimactic," Slater said of his second crowning. “I texted my mom, because it’s funny because I didn’t really have the emotion the other day. This is my profession and it’s a little on me to know the situation and it’s not just everyone else’s fault. There have been a few of these mistakes over the course of history, but this one was a bit weird, but I called Renato (Hickel) in the morning after I won because I was supposed to do this Dan Patrick show and I hadn’t won yet. I knew we wouldn’t surf for a day or two so people could get it out of their system and I could have a few days to refocus."
