Matt Capel (pictured left) wins the Island Style South Coast Challenge at Praa Sands in 2ft offshore conditions. The event scheduled to be held on one day over a week period was a great success, allowing the organisers to pick the best surf forecast for that week.

Capel continues his success with back to back wins on the BPSA tour, this weekend at the Island Style South Coast Challenge and last in September at the Headworx Welsh BPSA Open, putting him in a good position to challenge for the BPSA tour title this year. Second place went to Mark Harris of Newquay, who also was the runner up to Matt at the previous BPSA event in Wales. Third went to Ruebin Pearce, current BPSA Tour Champion, who was penalised for a paddling interference in the final. And fourth went to Oli Adams with his first final appearance of the year.

In addition to taking home £1,000 for his event win, Capel was also awarded £250 for the Freerange Best Tail-slide Manoeuvre of the event.

Dave Reed, Event Director, said: “Matt has shown he is a phenomenal talent at this event and previous events, being raised in Australia has given him a knowledge of how good he needs to be if he is going to be successful on a world stage. He is only 19 and has a great surfing career ahead of him.”

Island Style UK distributor Jason Ross said: “This was a fantastic event for Island Style, our first but not last in the UK. We saw the best of British surfers competing over the weekend and had a great insight at the amount of talented surfers there are in UK at present. We would like to congratulate and thank all the surfers who took part.”
