Holding Period Begins for Red Bull El Gigante Viene

The Association of Professional Towsurfers (APT) is proud to announce that the holding period for the Red Bull El Gigante Viene tow-in event has begun and will run through til July 30th, 2007.

Otherwise known as the ‘Mexican Pipe’, Puerto Escondido in Mexico is the heaviest beach break in the world. Red Bull and APT are going to wait for nothing short of the biggest day of the season with the best conditions. Surfline is the Official Forecaster for the APT World Tour Tow-In Surfing Circuit and will be using it’s team of expert forecasters and the LOLA global swell model to make the call, so the Red Bull El Gigante Viene can score the biggest and best waves on the planet.

“I am really stoked about having this event in my home town of Puerto Escondido. Having all these talented and big name surfers coming here to surf the most powerful beach break in the world, will be an amazing show,” said Carlos ‘Coco’ Nogales, Red Bull Team Rider and APT Competitor.

The select list of 20 teams is comprised of the top 8 winning teams from the Oahu tow-in event that took place this past February and 8 teams that were recently voted in by a sub-committee of big wave industry leaders and experts. 4 wild card team slots were also provided.

The ‘Red Bull El Gigante Viene’ is one of two scheduled events for the 2007 Gottaplay.com APT World Cup Tour. The second event, ‘Iquique, Chile International Tow-In Surfing Championship’ will be held between June 1st and July 31st, 2007.
