From railway lines and people being washed out to sea to ships running aground, a combination of giant swell and big tides has caused all kinds of mayhem in Europe this winter. But now it appears to be the Pacific’s turn. Following a recent run of storm surf off of California, this new footage of a wave crashing through a restaurant giving on to Santa Barbara harbour and blowing out all the windows in the process is pretty unsettling. As one diner succinctly puts it, it was literally “time to go” and word is there was no charge for breakfast.
Incidentally, in a near-identical incident early February a giant wave also crashed into a ocean-view restaurant in St Agnes, Cornwall, although in this case going from the ‘Do not enter sign’ it’s thought owners had opted to take precautions and not serve lunch that day.
