Final Comp of Corona Extra Pro Surfing Circuit

The APSPR (the Association of Professional Surfers of Puerto Rico) is happy to announce that the Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit will be holding their next event from March 9 – 11, 2007, at Playa Domes, Rincon, Puerto Rico. With a $10,000 men’s purse, and $5,000 for women, expect a strong field of international and local surfers to be battling it out for the top prize.

As the third and final stop on the Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit’s competitive season, this event will be instrumental for whoever plans on being crowned circuit champion. Whoever prevails definitely has their work cut out. On the men’s side, Brian Toth sits atop the men’s ratings with 1,860 points, hoping to repeat as Circuit Champion. He maintains a slim lead over Leslie Bursian, with 1,360 points, and Alejandro Moreda, with 1,230 points.

The youngsters seem to have the upper hand, but look for the old guard to put up a fierce battle. Recent ISA World Masters Champ and perennial APSPR powerhouse Juan Ashton returns to the circuit after missing events with injury, and Carlos Cabrero, Puerto Rico’s Pipeline Champ, are ready for the challenge.

On the women’s side, things are bound to come down to the wire, as several ladies are in contention for the crown. Lindsey Baldwin leads with 1,590 points, followed closely by Maria Del Mar Gonzalez with 1,500 points, and Lilac Alvarado with 1,280.

Rincon is no stranger to crowning champions, and look for Domes to deliver the goods, as this beach not only offers up consistent surf, but its beautiful sand lined shore is a perfect place to watch the ripping or simply work on your tan. With Corona as the title sponsor, entertainment will be first rate. Live music and heats on demand video from the day’s competition highlight the nightlife, and the town of Rincon tends to heat up when the sun goes down.

Make sure to catch the innovative “Heats on Demand” action on www.apspr.net. At the completion of each day of surf, you’ll have access to every scoring ride of the event, of every heat. You can scan the draw, and select which heat you would like to view. Each scoring ride will be shown, along with the points earned for that wave. Great entertainment and feedback.

Contestants wishing to enter can do so through www.apspr.net or visit Hang Loose Surf Shop, Playa Jobos, Puerto Rico. A $35 late fee will be charged after March 3rd, and no entry will be accepted after March 7th.

The Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit is proudly brought to you by: Corona Extra, Corona Light, Cuervo, APSPR, Hang Loose Surf Shop, Werner Vega Surfboards, Alfa Rock and Televicentro.
