When a 15 year old sun-bleached, cheecky kid walked up to
Dragon at Narrabeen in 1996, we knew we had found someone special. Mick was
fast building a reputation surfing Duranbah and the Gold Coast points of
Kirra and Greenmount..it was just the beginning.
In 1996, Dragon became the first brand to use Mick in a photo shoot. The
shoot was done by taking the still miniature grommet out to George
Greenough’s house at the back of Byron Bay and the result was Mick’s first
advertisement in Tracks/Waves in 1997.
From there the relationship was forged and the Cooli Kid became part of the
Dragon family. From then on, Mick began his road to victory and Dragon was
there every step of the way.
Then, in 2004, Mick’s world title aspirations suffered a huge blow when he
tore his hamstring off the bone attempting a forehand floater in Indonesia.
To repair the damage, Mick underwent complex surgery and was forced to stay
out of the water for six months. However, determination and hard work
prevailed as Mick came back to win the Quiksilver Pro in 2005 – his very
first contest after recovering from the injury. Mick then went on to win the
ASP World Title just two years later and earned himself world champ
status..don’t call it a comeback. What better way to introduce Dragon’s very
first Signature Series sunglass than with our very own World Champ.
Gold symbolizes Mick Fanning’s 2007 ASP World Championship win. Gold also
happens to represent his beloved home on the Gold Coast. To celebrate both,
we’re introducing Mick’s Signature Series Gold Brigade. Emblazoned with his
family crest and gold highlights throughout, the Fanning Signature Gold
Brigade has all the style made for a champ.
