Surfing is set to take on a new regional appeal. The Barbados based company ‘Caribbean Surf Network’ is aiming to take the sport in the region to levels that will see surfers competing more seriously eventually breaking into the international arena.
Caribbean Surf Network will be officially launched this weekend with a competition at the Soup Bowl, Bathsheba. Over 75 surfers will assemble for the two-day pro-am event beginning Sunday. Competition will be in all divisions and disciplines, with eight thousand dollars in prize money. It will be the curtain-raising event as other surfing contests are being listed for November 10-12 and November 24-26.
The Caribbean Surfing Network (CSN) will be made up of surfers from various islands to create a Caribbean Surfing Tour. Plans include finally getting into the limelight of the massive action sports industry. Thus far there are four countries involved and more to follow. This will be a great thing for the Caribbean, its surfers and tourism for the region.
