British Longboard Champs
The UK Bank Holiday weekend played host to the British Longboard Championships organised by the British Surfing Association at Godrevy in Cornwall. The conditions were challenging throughout the day with strong wind and rain making it pretty miserable for spectators and competitors alike.
But by the time the finals commenced during late afternoon, the wind had dropped, the swell had built and the waves cleaned up to provide some great opportunities for the surfers to demonstrate their skills. This annual event is the pinnacle of Longboarding competition in the UK with all of Britain’s best surfers battling it out for top honours and the coveted British titles.
North Devon surfers Juliet Marlow and Ben Haworth returned home having both won their respective divisions. Jules is now the British Ladies Longboard Champion (for the second time) and Ben finally achieved his ambition of winning the British Junior Longboard title which follows his English Champions title a few weeks ago.
Both surfers beat stiff competition convincingly with stylish and powerful surfing combined to produce significantly higher scoring waves than the other finalists. The open title was won deservedly by popular Welsh Champion Elliot Dudley who secured the overall British Longboard Champions title after 7 years of trying.
