This weekend (21st October) will see a top section of national and international kneeboarder talent descending on Fistral Beach, Newquay, for the 2006 British Kneeboard Surfing Championships, sponsored by Thule Roofracks. Last year’s event saw riders from Australia, South Africa and Portugal as well as from across the UK and with a strong swell predicted for the weekend, some awesome action is in store.
Each year the contest provides a great opportunity to showcase the sport of kneeboarding on one of Cornwall’s most spectator friendly beaches, and 2006 looks set to prove that kneeboarding is a sport to be reckoned with. The contest is jointly run by the BSA (British Surfing Association) and the BKC (British Kneelo Club). Chris Cockett and Tony Bonner at Kneeboard Surfing UK, the leading suppliers of kneeboards and accessories have joined forces with top sponsor Thule Roofracks to provide the prizes.
UK kneelo stars Jodie Troth and Richard Smith will be keen to retake their victories from last year and a host of spectators and supporters are expected at Fistral Beach from 10am onwards.
National Director of the BSA, Karen Walton comments, “Kneeboarding is growing year-on-year across the UK and the Championships give everyone involved a chance to really pit themselves against the best from across the UK and further afield. The kneelos are a great bunch and this is a really friendly, fun bunch and it’ll be a great vibe down at Fistral this weekend.”
