Get ready to break out your bonzers, quicken your quads, throw down your thrusters, tune up your twinnies and soul arch your single fins… Saturday September 28th 2013 sees the first annual 5 to 1 Fin Fair hit the UK. Hosted at Porthtowan Beach, this one-day surf comp and gathering of finned fanatics is a celebration of surfing and its diverse forms. But according to organisers “It’s not about the set up of your stick, it’s all about panache and the way you cut a dash.”
With an emphasis on good vibes, good rides and good times, the contest – open to guys, girls and groms – consists of five categories: single fin; 2 fin / twinnie / fish; Thruster or any 3 fin set-up; 4 fin set up / quad; 5 fin / Bonzer with a winner in each. Boards must be sub 9ft and watercraft will go though rigorous scrutineering to ensure no logs have slipped through the net.
The grand final will be held between the winners of each class, with the victor crowned the KING OF THE FINS. This event is all about style with judges looking for smooth expressive surfing, linking power with flow and stoke whilst balls out going for broke. Entry is open to all but places are limited and available on line on a first come, first served basis at Approaching Lines 5 to 1 Fin Fair.
