MEDINA & SLATER BOTH LOSE IN PENICHE, TITLE GOES TO PIPE

Love a Pipe finish?

Who don’t?!?

Gabriel Medina lost to Brett Simpson (!) today at Supertubos, his =13th result meaning the title race will only be decided at the Banzai Pipeline in December.

Whether due to brain fart, or timekeeping error, (or… it’s a fix!) Medina inexplicably left the water with 2 minutes to go, needing only a 5… total madness.

And just as the entire surf world (except Brazil) knowingly/predictably uttered, ‘Watch Kelly, he’ll win the event now…’ he didn’t. Rather than close the gap in typical Slater fashion, the 42-year-old 11 time World Champ lost to Aritz Aranburu in the very next heat. Yikes!
