While the Eddie ended up not running yesterday due to bad winds, exciting news has just come in from contest organizers for the Mavericks Invitational, confirming the world’s premier big wave surf contest will run tomorrow, January 24th.
With a massive swell forecast upwards of 40 feet (this is what it looked like at Jaws yesterday!), the world’s most talented heavy water risk takers will be back at Half Moon Bay for the second edition of the live stream.
“Changes in the offshore weather prompted a postponement until today for the official announcement,” said contest director Jeff Clark. “There was concern for a south wind and giant swell, which could have posed danger not only for competitors but for all boats out in the water.”
Ok, so it’s always easy to get a little over-excited about these things. And yeah last year’s swell didn’t quite live up to expectations, but scroll down the competitors list below and try to tell us it’s not going to be interesting! The entire contest will stream live on universalsports.com and mavericksinvitational.com.
In the meantime here’s highlights from last year’s event.
