Jordy Smith defeated Joel Parkinson to put the Hurley Pro Trestles out of its misery in small surf in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon.
“I had a really good surf board under my feet,” and “…I just took it heat by heat” said the big South African after the win.
Web gazers and on-site fans alike were aghast at the revelations.
Following a few lay days and something of an anticlimactic vibe following the Saturday Slaughter hysteria, actually deciding event champs seemed a bit indulgent. Not for our two finalists though. Despite the billing as an inevitable Toledo airshow, the final was essentially two large men doing cutbacks in soft waist high surf.
Meanwhile Tyler Wright defeated Steph Gilmore to all but secure the 2016 World Title. With 4 event wins under her belt and healthy lead over Courtney Conlogue, it’d take a monumental choke to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for Tyler.
