Cape Verde consists of ten islands off the coast of Senegal, with a much more ‘African’ vibe than their Macaronesian counterparts to the north.
Requiring solid swell to light up points on the leeward west coasts – offshore on the prevailing (howling) NE trades – we’re talking mainly rights. The flipside is the prevailing direction is cross/offshore. Get your timing right, and make full use of the kinks in the coast, and you can score your own slice of west African reefpoint heaven.
More exotic, warmer than the Canaries, not as gnarly as mainland Dark Continent… what we do know is CV attracts ‘repeat offenders’; crew who have been on surf missions tend to go back. There must be something in that.
