Joan Duru won the Nike 6.0 Cash For Tricks yesterday at Casernes, the famous gay nudist beach north of Seignosse.

It was a terrifically long day for me. I got there at 4am, as instructed, to help set the site up with my bare hands, so that things could kick off at 8am, which they did. I was judging the heats and might have nodded off at some point mid-morning, but was immediately woken up and told off by head judge Damien Marly. I got in further trouble before lunch by mistakenly thinking the ‘x’ next to my name meant I was off (x meant on). I thought I had a break, so went for a surf down the beach. The waves weren’t amazing at that point, I just really needed a number 2, and there are no public latrines (no prizes for guessing why) at Casernes. It was about 2ft long and I felt amazing afterwards. Anyway, I got back and got told off again, but then really knuckled down and concentrated and did a pretty good judging job for the rest of the event. Nailed it.

Joan and Jex who got the wildcards into the International Final and Christophe Allary, who didn’t.

Dave Mailman and Archi were on the mic. Off mic, Dave pointed out a chick’s ass walking down the beach. I told him that’s XXXXXXX’s wife. Oops he said. We chuckled. A tourist had to get rescued just next to the comp by the lifeguard police, which was quite dramatic.
Oh yeah, the surfing was great! Reubyn Ash wasn’t there so somebody else had to win this one, and Jo Dur did. A surfer much more slight in stature known only as ‘Jex’ on the heat sheet came second, so these two will be in the International Final in Anglet.
