This year, the Rip Curl Pro revolves around two major events, the Junior/Senior World Championships, which will take place right in the heart of Europe’s most celebrated beach break zone. On the menu: the elite of the world’s riders, an extremely well-oiled organisation and a fun and festive atmosphere.
August 17th to 19th 2007: The Pro Junior Men 4 stars, European competition for the under-21’s. Affiliated to the ASP, the Pro Junior is a real trampoline for young surfers who hope to make their entrance onto the international professional circuit. The winner gets to ride against the world’s most famous champions in the Main Event.
August 20th to 26th 2007: The Super Series, major event on the World Surf Tour. The Rip Curl Pro is the only ‘Super Series’ event on the professional ASP circuit. Limited to the 144 best surfers, it attracts both the WCT stars that wish to remain in the international elite and the best WQS riders who wish to become a part of this exclusive club.
All the rounds have 4 competitors up until the quarter-finals; then onto the big stuff with one-on-one rider play-offs all the way to the $150 000 prize money final.
Rip Curl Pro Music Festival
From Hossegor-Seignosse to Biarritz, Rip Curl and Sprite are hosting an exclusive Music Festival. This event is seen as one of the rising stars in Europe’s up and coming music scene. After the huge success of last year’s 20th birthday bash, the Rip Curl Pro Music Festival offers a much more committed event this year, flying the flag for environmental protection.
Music Festival live at the Ilbarritz beach, Biarritz – August 24th and 25th 2007.
With your feet in the sand, enjoy the 2 nights of exclusive Rock, Reggae and Ragga concerts right in the heart of the town that witnessed the birth of surfing in France 50 years ago…
“To Surf and Preserve…”
During the concerts, Rip Curl will establish a ‘pay your own cup’ system. For the first drink, and for one symbolic euro extra, the customer buys his/her own cup that is to be kept for the following drinks. This action prevents the concert site from being strewn with empty cups.
All proceeds will go towards the WWF to support the “Rip Curl Coral Guard” programme, aiming to preserve the endangered coral reefs. According to estimations, 10 % of the world’s reefs have been harmed beyond repair and 30 % of them are seriously under threat.
“One night for the Planet” – DJ Sessions – August 17th 2007 on the Place des Landais, Hossegor.
DJ Battle night on Hossegor’s Central beach… with a Solar Sound System: a ‘PA and decks’ system that only runs off solar energy! This is an original initiative that follows the company’s willingness to make progress by reducing its ecological footprint. This will also be the occasion to discover the new collection of bio products during a fashion show on the main square.
