Beers in the pool, an atmosphere of sunny jollity, scenes of debauchery that recall the world tour’s hedonistic heyday, a trophy in the form of a shoe, and one of Indonesia’s, nay the world’s, finest waves… “The best event I could dream of, to be honest,” says Taj Burrow, who just won the Komune Bali Pro, presented by the Mad Hueys, for the second year running. How we shall miss this wonderful man, soon to join the storied ranks of former competitive surfers — although we can at least count on his continued appearance at this most anomalous of surf contests. Bruce Irons, Jay Davies, and Joel Parkinson also feature, the latter evidently in severe pain from the “niggling knee injury” that’s keeping him out of Rio.
