Damo Hob-go strokes in to the wave of the day, as is his wont, in the latest installment of Ramón Navarro’s excellent series Los Buscagigantes, brought to you by the folk over at Epic TV. ‘Buscagigantes’ means ‘Giant Hunters’, if ya didn’t know, and the series follows around Chilean hero Ramón Navarro on his quest to surf the biggest waves he can get his mitts on.
As you may have realized, since Damo left the tour he’s had the time to get a lot more free-surfing done, tracking swells and following them round the world. He put in a stellar performance in Joe G and Globe’s Strange Rumblings In Shangri La, for instance, thanks to the kind of trips he wouldn’t have been able to do in earlier years. His section at Greenbush in particular is a must-see.
But he’s also been dedicating himself to chasing bigger waves, an experience he likens to first joining the world tour. When he saw the swell on its way to Chile last spring, he asked Ramón if he could, like, come along to surf Punta de Lobos, you know. And Ramón was, like, yeah, sure. What followed was a session of epic proportions. Also in tow — though strictly paddle-in only — were Christian Merello, Natxo Gonzalez (he of the spontaneous outbursts of froth) and Chacha Ibarra.
