Founded on a snowboarding trip in the winter of 1991 by Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall, the Volcom idea would incorporate a major philosophy of the times: “Youth Against Establishment.” It embodies the creative spirit of youth culture.
Both founders had quit work in order to be able to ride powder for days on end and later that spring, they had an idea to create a riding company based around the three sports they enjoyed (snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing). Thus, ‘America’s First Boarding Company’ was born.
The company has a strong focus on supporting athletes in their sport, to collaborate with other brands and to provide a means for them to come together. This can be from the grassroots contest such as the Let the Kids Ride Free series, to the high-profile Volcom Pipe Pro on the North Shore, and the Volcom Fiji Pro as a stop on the ASP World Tour.
