Plans for yet another UK-based Wavegarden artificial wave pool have just been announced by the Mid Devon Gazzette.

This time just off Junction 27 down the M5 in Devon. Westwood Reef will make up part of an ambitious leisure and tourism development that is said to also include a 1,800-seater concert venue and fabulous shopping opportunities among a “lifestyle outlet village”.

For those who do eventually wish to shred the proposed 300 metre lagoon, bear in mind you’ll need to book ahead as the facility will only cater between 60 and 70 surfers at a time.

Interestingly, the total cost Westwood Reef developers have estimated only stands at 3 million pounds, half the price tag forecast for the Bristol and North Wales Wavegarden projects.

For now though this particular project is yet to be awarded planning permission. In fact, certain local landowners have said they don’t intend to sell their land should the proposal go ahead.

Other critics claim the sudden demand for Wavegarden’s artificial wave pool technology confirms just how bad the actual surf is in the U.K., but they don’t see why Britain’s beautiful countryside should have to pay for it, with Cornwall no doubt next in line.
