Day 2 of the Cascais Billabong Prime was dealt more strong onshores and challenging conditions. On the brink of world tour qualification, the big disappointment of the day came at Marc Lacomare’s elimination. But faced with two WCTers in his heat, the odds were always going to be stacked against the Frenchman. Not to mention that Gabes Medina showed up as the in-form competitor of the day, posting the highest heat total with a near-perfect 18.94 out of 20.

“I feel good, I had some good and bad results this year and I’m just trying my best at every event,” Medina said. “I’m having fun here in Portugal, but I always want to win when I enter an event.”

The good news was that other Euros Jony Gonzalez, Charly Martin, Maxime Huscenot and Jeremy Flores all proved on great form, dominating their heats with impressive performances.

“I’m happy to make that heat, it was hard but I got a couple good waves,” Jeremy Flores stated. “I haven’t had the best season this year, I feel like I’m only starting to get a little better, and I really want to finish this season strong and start off 2014 with a clean slate.”
