Having visited Japan, Portugal and now in France at UWL Surfboards in August 2009, Matt is impatient to make known his shapes to the French market. Discover the Matt YERXA models at UWL Surfboards.

He was born and raised in Southern California and improve surfing Huntington Beach and Trestles. By Junior High School he began taking trips to Mexico and by the time he finished High School : all he wanted to do is surf and travel. While attending a local University he shaped in his spare time to earn enough money to travel to Indonesia, French Polynesia, Central America, and Europe. After finishing College he moved to the North Shore of Oahu to pursue a career in building surfboards. Hawaii is a renowned proving ground for surfing and surfing equipment and is ideal for developing and testing new design concepts. He still reside on the North Shore and continue to pursue his passion to surf and produce the highest performing custom surfboards on the market.

He built his first surfboard at age 18, after talking his dad into allowing him to build a small workshop in the back of their garage. That first year he shaped about 40 boards, mostly for loyal friends.

Over the past 16 years, he has been fortunate to have worked along side some of the world’s most talented and innovative craftsmen and designers. Since 2001, Matt is the «Back Shaper» of ERIC ARAKAWA DESIGNS (that is to say he shapes the HIC & ARAKAWA when Eric Arakawa, reference in the world of shape, is travelling or not available), but he has been shaper at SURFLIGHT HAWAII and TOWN & COUNTRY HAWAII too.

His name is famous on the Oahu north coast, and he now shapes his own boards with his own signature for many pro surfboards on tour.

Any other particularities? He shapes longboards (Pro-model Ned SNOW, or HPLG at Santa Cruz) as well as shortboards (Pro-model Shuji KASUYA or Eric REBIERE).
