Precocious young talent Will Bailey from Woolacombe notched up an outstanding ten point heat score at the Rip Curl GromSearch held at Rest Bay, South Wales this weekend. With nearly 50 kids rocking up to take part, the level of riding was outstanding, as competitors took on the 2-3ft swell. Among those present was Tom Horn from Porthcawl, the youngest lad in the comp at just six years of age, and nine year old Elis Richards, from Mumbles, Swansea.
The strong English contingent took it home in all categories, following a fierce day’s surfing, lasting nine hours. Will Bailey stood out among the crowd after tearing it up in his heat, drawing the attention of those present, and raising a few eyebrows in the process. The kid is one to watch for sure.
The top Welsh finishers, David Williams and Mali James, both from Swansea, surfing in their respective Under 16 categories, won an all expenses paid trip to the UK finals at Godrevey in Cornwall on the 20 and 21 June. They’ll be taking on the best the English and Irish have to offer.
