Kelly Slater smoked CJ Hobgood in 5-6ft Cloudbreak yesterday to win yet another event for 2008. Against the collective will of most of the people here, he just survived a QF with Bobby before doing the Slater job in the semis and final and winning at a mere canter. Congrats to him for ripping the shit out of it, and even if everyone else reckons its boring that he keeps winning, well, it’s not his fault that he’s nearly 50 and still way better than all the other pricks, is it?

Afterwards he was packing his boards up waiting to get the heli out of here and tried to get a bit of banter going with me about Little Britain.

“Not now Kelly,” I had to snub him, “I got a blog to write and stuff, maybe we can hang out later.” I think he likes Little Britain quite a lot. He looked pretty gutted when I told him I was more into Peep Show these days… people move on.
I made my WCT debut the day before caddying for Ace against Bobby in their Round 4 heat. Everybody here, from Mick to Griggsy to kelly himself had said AB was the form guy in the early rounds, but inconsisto sets meant he only needed a 6 with 8 mins to go with priority and couldn’t get another roller. I was sitting in the channel with Taj’s caddy (the massive dude from bra boys) and Parko’s caddy (Occy) and the hobgood caddy (chris gallagher) feeling more than just a little bit out of place. One dude on a jetski came over and asked me to get away from the contest area, before the other caddies had to explain that I was supposed to be there. Ace’s back up board was a borrowed Merrick from Yadin. There was a ding in the nose that had been repaired, I was a bit bored and started to fiddle with it and then pulled the end of nose off. Oops.
