The contest was up and running from around 8.30 this morning. It started on the south podium with the under 16’s and then at 9 a.m. the under 18’s began on the main podium. It started with a bang for the Brits with two members of the team in the first heat of both categories. Unfortunately both George Picking(U16) and Arron Evans(U18) bowed out and into the repercharge but they will be firing for their next heats having had this first encounter with an international competition.
Shaun Joubert from South Africa clocked up the highest heat day of the day with a combination of 18 points. On brighter British notes Nike 6.0 team rider Toby Donachie took second in the under 16’s, Hurley’s Josh Piper also took second in the under 16’s and I took second in the last heat of the day with a combination of 11 points in the under 18’s. All in all, It’s been a good day of competition with good waves and nice weather.
